A five month old African Spotted Genet; from the african wildcat family. He's sitting on my shoulder. These are not to be kept as pets or domesticated; his handler brought him in to the office today. She works for the Aloha Zoo in Cameron, NC. They rescue wild animals from circuses, carnivals, and collectors.

This is Bossman, a 2 year old Saint Bernard. He has Laryngeal Paralysis. His mama found him collapsed and blue (gums/tongue) in the back yard. A surgery is required to help, which costs about $3-4k and she's trying to raise the money to afford his surgery. He is such a lover and so well behaved.

ideas for exercise in lieu of walking?

Normally I take Olive on a walk through the neighborhood twice a day to get some exercise. However - I found out tonight that I've broken my ankle (more on that in a second) and while I am in a walking boot, I doubt a mile walk twice a day is what my doc intended. Any suggestions or ideas for how to keep Olive thoroughly exercised (worn out) while I'm in this thing?

And now that the real question's been asked I *have* to share how I earned this boot. I was grocery shopping at Wal-Mart last week. Normally I go to Target but we were running low on time and there's a Wal-Mart much closer. I was standing in a very long line to check out and a cashier came and told me that he could help me in the next line over. As I back my cart up to go to the next line a woman comes barreling down the checkout aisles and rams right into my ankle. It hurt worse than probably anything else I've ever experienced and I couldn't even more or speak for several minutes. Long story short, it's been about 9 days and I am still hurting pretty badly so I finally went to the doc today. She fractured my outer ankle bone. I forget what the technical term is..I think a lateral malleolous fracture? Needless to say, I'm a little peeved. butthead1

How to I reinforce the Life or Death Stop?

While off leash I can get my dogs to stop no matter what they hear. And pretty much can get them to stop if they see something they take an interest in, although not perfect.
What I like to able able to do, should certain situations arise, is get them to stop no matter what. They are not food motivated.
I think there is a method for this.
Any input would be great.

I'm so sick of that question. SO SICK. I'm a small person. I wear children's clothing, I'm so small. I'm stick thin. My dog outweighs me, significantly.

Normally, Castiel has no more than 3 feet of leash when he's with me. That said, when I'm trying to get him to eliminate because I'm COLD and in my pyjamas and it's COLD OUTSIDE, I give him a little more head room and follow him around while he sniffs out the perfect spot.

This inevitably brings along some idiot who goes "Ha ha he's walking you!"

Which is why I need to vent.

Dear sir,

Yes, I weigh less than my dog. No, he is not walking me. Me giving him the ability to direct our movement because he is sniffing around to select a place to eliminate is not the same as him walking me. Even if I stumble, it's still not the same thing. I stumbled because I was clumsy and caught my toe in a brick, not because he was pulling me in any way.

If a dog who weighs more than I do is walking me? You'll know it. I'll be the one looking roughly like a flag in the wind flapping on the end of my dog's leash as he gallops away.

This has been a public service announcement from your friendly neighbourhood great dane owner.

I would like to do some volunteer work at local shelters in my area and I did some research on DOL so I have an idea of what kinds of things that I might be able to do for the shelters. I can donate some, however I really want to donate my time and efforts as well. Fostering is probably not the world's best option for me not because I'm worried about not qualifying or being a foster failure but because I'm not sure how Apollo will take to new dogs in the house and I don't want to traumatize these animals more than they may be already. Apollo might do well with certain dogs, but certain dogs he wouldn't at this time.

I just wanted to know, besides fostering who is active with the shelters, what kinds of things have you done, how often have you done it and what has your experience been? I would interested to know.

I just came home from work to find Remy had chewed a giant hole in our wall! Its about two inches in diameter, and it seems pretty deep. Im pretty angry because we will probably lose our deposit , but should I be worried about lead poisoning? How much does he have to ingest before I notice symptoms? Is there a home testing kit for lead poisoning?

I'd like to take him to the vet, but the timing is so horrible. We just put 2000 for a deposit on a new home and our other dog had just gotten back from the vet for colitis. Any thing we can do in the mean time?

My poor Daisy hasn't been feeling well tonight. She's been pacing around and threw up all of her supper. She threw up a few more times, but it was mostly water. Her temperature is normal and she's still silly and playful. She ate a piece of drywall on Monday, but it looked like she threw most of it up not long after. I'm not sure if this could be connected or not.

I took her for a little walk to get her out of the house and get her some fresh air and all she wanted to do was eat grass. Her and Tank played for a bit when we got home. I put her water up and wont feed her again tonight so I don't encourage more vomiting. Now she's laying down - Finally!!
Thanks.

So tonight I gave Dharma, now 13 weeks old, a bone with marrow in it. When I went to take it away, she growled and snapped at me. I then proceeded to pin her down and take the bone away until she calmed down and sat. I gave it back to her, let her chew on it for another 10 mins, went to take it away, same thing she growled and snapped so I took it away and put it up in the fridge. Should I be worried? She hasn't shown any other signs of aggression. Thanks!

Mox has an egg everyday on her lunch- she loves eggs:)
She is an "interesting" eater and lunch is the only meal I can count on her eating w/o needing coaxing. She is on CS Large Breed and loves her kibble when given as a treat and sometimes meals. Often I feel like she does not want to be bothered to eat. I try to ignore her but she will let Leroy take her food without a worry ( he does not need it) So my question is, can I give her more than one egg a day? Would that be good or bad for her?
Here is her food schedule:
Breakfast-around 9:30 AM (no earlier) 1 cup of kibble with water and carrots and green beans
Lunch- between 1 and 3pm 2 cups of kibble, water, and one egg
Dinner- around 6pm 2 cups of kibble , water and carrots and greenbeans.
Mox is about 112# and just shy of 33' so she is not super skinny but I would like her to eat more easily.
